Born in Liverpool, England, Helen came to Australia as a child and now lives in Thirlmere, near the southern highlands of NSW.
With a lifelong interest in art, Helen found the opportunity to further her artistic studies in Florence at the Charles H. Cecil Studios, one of Italy’s leading studios still teaching drawing and oil portraiture in the demanding, traditional style.
At the Cecil Studio, Helen was taken through the discipline of cast drawing, ‘sight size’ life drawing and portraiture in oils. This enabled Helen to gain the training unavailable to her a decade or more earlier.
Another period of study in 1999 continued the development of her skills as an oil painter.
Although Helen works mostly with oils, she also enjoys pastel work and drawing and has provided private tuition to other local artists who have shown interest in traditional portraiture methods.
Since 2000 Helen has lived for periods in New York, where she also exhibited her artwork. Her paintings hang in private and business collections in Australia, the UK, France and the USA.
As well selling her paintings, Helen also takes commissions from Australian and international clients.
